I can say with certainty that after 18 years of summer vacationing in Lake Tahoe, my children’s favorite activity was visiting the Naughty Dawg Saloon & Grill and drinking out of the dog bowl. Not a cup or mug, but a real plastic dog bowl. Don’t get me wrong, they were not lapping the drink with their faces inches from the rim, but instead sucking up the beverage from extra long straws. Wait, of course they lapped from the bowl, they were kids!
It was the kind of dive joint that blared cool music, showcased photos of dogs on every available wall space, and served the best chicken strips and fries. I envied the dog owners that brought their pooches to lounge on the patio while they enjoyed an adult beverage, kicking back in the sun without seemingly a care in the world. The restaurant closed a few years back, but the memories of the Naughty Dawg evokes the strongest emotions of sharing good times, children’s laughter and summer fun.
